The number of times you hear about how bad sugar is for you is probably only second to how often you hear your name being called. Having said so, you probably do not fully appreciate the extent to which sugar is damaging to your health. To this effect we have decided to make this topic more relateable by listing down what we believe to be the 8 most tangible signs that you’re eating too much sugar:
1) You are constantly tired – sugar spikes your energy levels for a short time but shortly afterwards leaves you feeling even more tired than before
2) You are often sick or suffer from infections – your immune system becomes weaker as a result of over-consumption of sugar
3) You feel sluggish throughout the day – eating a lot of sugar also means you’re probably not eating enough protein and fibre, important nutrients for keeping you satiated or full
4) Sweet tooth – the more sugar you eat the more you crave it; sugar is an addictive substance
5) Weight gain – sugar is a pure form of instant energy and if you do not burn it you will store it as body fat, particularly when consuming big quantities
6) Skin problems – sugar is an inflammatory substance which causes your skin to become inflamed
7) Nothing tastes as sweet as it used to – excessive consumption of sugar bombards your taste buds with your sugar tolerance levels rising up
8) You often get tooth decay – sugar feeds harmful bacteria present in your mouth
So here’s another reminder in case you had become complacent of late – minimize your sugar consumption to the bare minimum. Your body will thank you for it.
To fitness with love,
Martina
